Abstract: Small hydropower stations are widely distributed in more than 1 700 counties in China, and the number is larger than 47 000 in total, which plays an important role in social and economic development, poverty elimination, energy saving, emergency relief and other aspects. In recent years, with the rapid development of small hydropower stations and institutional transition, some management problems occur, resulting in a number of serious safety risks, even accidents which endangers the lives and property of people. The paper summarizes some existing problems in safety management of projects and puts forward some countermeasures, which is of great meaning for guidance.
