Abstract: Dam safety technical standards provide the necessary details about the specific requirements for dam design, construction, commissioning and operation. They also play an important role in technical supervision for dam safety. After 50 years' development, a system of dam safety technical standards is established. By reviewing the development of dam safety technical standards in China, this paper makes a systematic summary of various types of standards and analyzes the characteristics. It intends to provide information support for further improvement of dam safety technical standards in China. Also, for the most reservoirs constructed during the early years, this paper is useful as carry out the evaluation of dam behavior and appraisal of dam safety scientifically.
